Within the framework of the European project NanoLyse methods to detect and quantify organic and inorganic nanoparticles in different food matrices have been developed. As a result of the project the application of the analytical techniques and the developed methods were summarized in standard operation procedures. In order to provide information to potential stakeholders workshops were organized which addressed inorganic nanoparticle analysis using (i) field flow fractionation hyphenated to multiple detectors and (ii) sp-ICP-MS.
Workshop on ´Single particle ICP-MS for Ag NP analysis´
Date: 26 – 27 March 2013
Host: RIKILT Wageningen UR, The Netherlands
No of participants: 18
The workshop was designed to provide hands on laboratory experience on single particle analysis and it was intended primarily to ICP-MS users from various institutions covering statutory food testing labs, industry and university sector with focus on nanoparticle analysis. In the course of seminars and hands on training in the laboratories the method for Ag nanoparticles in complex matrices was demonstrated.
The workshop was focused on:
1. Sample preparation for the isolation of Ag nanoparticles from the matrix
2. Optimization of ICP-MS conditions for single particle analysis
3. Calibration for Ag-NP particle detection and quantification
The workshop emphasized practical aspects of the characterization and quantification of silver nanoparticles in food by single particle ICP-MS.
